In the lighting provided by the inn, Mercy watched Emery's expressions. Not normal at all given their conversation. And speaking the names seemed to have caused him a bit of distress. This was a little puzzling to Mercy, but she had waited for his response to react as she took a sip of her drink, thinking it was little more than water.
Listening to his neutral response to her questioning, Mercy raised a brow, not amused with this game any more. Sadly, he had brought her into a neutral area...to strike out at him now would cause a major disturbance. So, she leaned in close, saying quietly, "Jack, if that's your name even, I'm not buying it." Leaning back a little she said, "Do you care to tell me the truth, or should I walk out right now?" Looking back to her drink, she added, "I think we could learn a great deal from each other."
Okay, well, truth be told, she wasn't thinking of having Emery lean anything from her. Mercy didn't know he was already taking what he wanted from her mind. She actually thought that maybe she'd have to torture him to get information out of him. He didn't seem...human. Even if she hadn't noticed any outward display of being a mutant, she just wasn't getting a normal 'human' feeling from this man. And she knew she could hide in the building that they had just come from. Both sides had dungeons there used for torture if the need came to be. And...well, she would just love to torture him if given the chance.

He was digging deeper into her mind now, not overly far away from the memories. This perhaps was not the right moment to do this, seeing as it took most of his concentration and mind power on it, not focusing on what was going on around him as much. This could make him susceptable to attacks, which was part of the reason he always started his investigations in quiet places. His powers left him open physically, and people didn't usually like to attack in public, which could lead to suspicion. Especially if he knew some of the people, who might come to his aid unless the attack was cleverly done.
He humoured her be leaning in so she could talk quietly, though again his mind was else where, gathering information. He was sipping his drink steadily now, used to the slightly off taste of it. "Hmm.. I suppose that's also inconvient." He said in a nuetral voice. His expression was not wavering off of the concentrating expression. If she walked out now, he would simply follow her from a safe and guarded distance, however long he could keep that up without running into trouble. "Eskra," He said, his tone implying disbelief that this was the name she usually used. "I already have." He said, leaning back slightly. He was referring to learning things, not telling the truth.
"Is there anything you would like to know?" He asked. The longer she stayed here talking, the safer and easier it would be for him. Of course, once it became apparent he was not going to spill anything truthfully it might lead to complications. He was starting to access memories now, only the most recent, like meeting Emery outside the mansion. He placed both arms on the table top now, supporting him. This was taxing his energy now, especially now he was starting to reach memories.

While Mercy knew that her version of telling the truth, the one with blood seeping from the other person as they cried in pain, was not always the only way, she didn't get an honest feeling from this man. Attacking him here would lead to her own problems, so she didn't want that. Still...to sit around and waste her time with someone she couldn't get the truth from was infuriating. When he said he already had, Mercy glanced to him for just a second, as though trying to figure out how he had gained information.
"There is a lot I'd like to know, but since you have been less than forthright with me, I am not stupid as to ask." Setting her half-finished drink down, Mercy stood up as she said quietly, "I'm still not sure what you are. But if we ever meet again, I will not be this polite." With that, she headed towards the door.
She hoped that if they ever met again, it would not be around his friends who would stand up for him. A nice quiet alley where he couldn't see her attack coming would be ideal.
Getting to the door, she opened it, heading into the street and off towards some of the other establishments. While she had to get going, after what she had just been though, Mercy thought maybe spending the night somewhere hospitable would be nice. After all, she was going to be heading deeper into enemy territory.

"You cannot honestly expect me to answer every question you ask with honestly, can you?" He asked, tilting his head to the side slightly. "What fun would that be?" Emery was fully aware he was taunting her, which he knew from experience could land him in trouble. But if he was gambling correctly, she wouldn't dare to attack him. As loose lipped and burdensome as friends could be, they were helpful on occasions such as this. His face was impassive, niether showing interest, sarcasm, any emotion at all. Completely nuetral. Inside he was quite estatic, he was just getting to the good information, starting to hear what the message was, what she did, etc.
He couldn't help but frown slightly as she stood up to depart. "No one likes pleasantries anymore, I suppose." he said equally quietly with a slight sigh. He traced the outside rim of his cup with one finger, concentrating harder then ever to gain whatever information he could before she left. And then she was gone, out the door, taking her thoughts and memories with her. Drat.. He thought, just before things got interesting. He debated following her for a moment, recalling her threat. He started to stand up, draining his drink, when he almost collapsed in his chair.
He slid back down so not to make a scene. He was more drained then he had thought. Though, after all, this hadn't been a easy mind. First the struggle at the beginning, then accessing memories, and he had been in there a while. Not to mention the other minds he had scanned. Standing up again, and using the back of the chair for support, he decided he would start tracking her first thing tomarrow. A good game of cat and mouse. He walked to the stairs, leaned on the wall, and waved goodnight to his friends, before heading up. "A pity though," He whispered to himself. "I still not sure whose the mouse."
Tracking a person could be difficult in a city. Now that he had felt her mind, it would be easier to sense. So he would comb the city until he found her, and if it took more then a day start asking around to see if she had left. He hoped she would leave soon, for it was easier hunting for a mind where there are just trees and plains then in a non ending sea of them. Unlocking the door, he entered his room. It was small and a little shabby, with a window and a tattered piece of cloth for protection. He took off his boots and jacket, then dropping the letter and parcel atop. He rested on the edge of his bed, faced the open window, and stared blankly at it, going into a trance as he looked through the information he had gained. He would stay like this until he got so tired he would simply keel over, asleep. Tomarrow it was.

Tomorrow.
It always seemed like it came to soon and yet was always so far away.
The morning found Mercy waking up at sunrise a few blocks from where she had left Emery, her blades laying on either side of the bed and one clenched in her hand as she opened her eyes slowly. She'd gotten the room the night before, and the Inn was an Allegiance one, and she was pretty confident she was safe there.
After a drink and some eggs for breakfast, Mercy headed out onto the streets. Glancing around, she decided maybe it was good to take the long way towards her targets. Especially after the day before. Emery's encounter had made her even more paranoid than normal, and she wanted to get the chance to find anyone who was following her before she endangered those who were on the Allegiance side within the Fanallan country.

Emery was a limp form on the bed, the top of his head dangling off the bed, along with his feet. Yesterday had been a busy, interesting day, and he had fallen asleep not long after the ritual scanning of the daily information. A dull knocking arroused his light doze, and he leapt off the bed, wild eyed and scrambling for a dagger, knife, any type of weapon. A moment later he reliezed it was Katy, or some other maid he had hired to wake him up so he didn't sleep the day away. Relaxing, he called out, announcing his awakefulness, before preceding to get ready for the day. His mind wasn't exactly buzzing yet, he was still half asleep, but the cold bucket of water which made up his shower made up for that. After changing and gather his needed belongings, a dagger on his side and a knife up his sleeve, he exited the building with a light breakfast.
The morning air was cool and damp on his face, he closed his eyes, tilting his chin up. A thousand minds bomb barded his, but the walls were implace. Slowly he released them, panic filling his chest as they swamped his mind. For a few, tense seconds he was terrified of loosing his mind with the onslaught, but gradually it went into a shifting sea, his mind floating above. Now came the easy part. He shifted through the minds, searching for a one with a familiar taste. Sense he had already gone pretty deep in Eskra's mind, and the fact she was not to far away, it was easy enough to find her. Smiling slightly, he opened his eyes, looking at the sun. Twenty minutes it had taken, not bad for the town. Keeping hold of her taste would be different, certainly difficult. He set off down the street, following the direction it led.
